Two more visits to council - November Meetings
Videos: Environmental committee reports, removing a council member from the CVRD Board, and climate #1 priority in the 2024 Budget
Hello Community,
As we continue to visit N.C. council, we find that there is definitely one small lens everything must go through, and there seems to be no wiggle room for public input. This will continue until more become engaged.
Currently, we are in budget review season, as was sent out in a previous Substack, and the climate is the #1 priority as shown.
As a background, this video was after our Mayor stated that we do not have a voice (see previous Substack or our Utube) if we, or other council members, do not agree with the climate action plan they need to wait until the next election. The next meeting council passed a motion for the taxpayers to pay for any lawyers needed if a councilor is sued for conflict of interest, with one councilor opposed ( Counc. Findlay). Joseph speaks on this:
The Budget that is currently presented to the council states that the Climate is #1 ( as we showed via screenshots previously ) So now that public opinion is not welcome, who exactly are the shareholders that N.C. is answering to? Adrienne asks :
The Council decided to remove the one dissident/alternate voice that was part of the council who was on the board of the CVRD, because as a few stated in essence, ‘we need all the represented to vote the same otherwise our 4 seats at the CVRD won’t make a difference’. Additionally, the environmental committee decided, as part of their plan, to introduce ‘climate’ to children as they presented to the N.C. council for consideration.
Spoken on here :
Council never had a definition for a “climate emergency” ( see past Substack or coap.ca/foia) yet this directs all our policy.
(Staff is asking for a 7-11% tax hike - as a side note)
The next meeting is Tuesday! We will send you the highlights of the next budget meeting soon. If you care about your future taxes and where they are spent, get active!
Sincerely,
Team COAP.
