A call to write letters and more ...
Dear COAP community,
We have a few urgent “actions” that we are asking folks to engage in .
NO OPEN DRUG USE BYLAW
Please write North Cowichan Council ( council@northcowichan.ca) if you have issues with the open drug use in North Cowichan. You do not need to live in N.C. but if you visit here, or shop here, please have your say. On Wed. Counc. Tek Manhas will begin the process of bringing a bylaw before council to stop open drug use in North Cowichan.
They do not like long letters, so just a paragraph or two that states how either you don’t feel safe, your child in school is being effected, or whatever you feel justified in speaking to on this topic. N.C. DOES count letters, so your voice matters.
Please fill out and share ( if you have not already) the petition against open drug use here : https://coap.ca/open-drug-use/ ( can be found on our website as well) We have taken to the streets to hear children’s voices, and they have all supported this bylaw.
A few days ago I spent the lunch hour with the lunch-hour supervisors for Quamichan School, and the kids were walking through smoke from crack pipes on their way back to class . Unacceptable. We will ad the children’s signatures to this petition.
Show up on Wed at 4:30 to sign up to speak on this to council ( allowed 3 minutes). This is NOT the debate, so if you can not show up this time, we will let you know when they bring it up for debate.
DO YOU LIVE IN NORTH COWICHAN?
Recently North Cowichan separated our water/sewer/garb from our property taxes. Now as many of us can foresee, this will inevitably lead to monitoring/charging all these in the future. This has led to an extra charge per year as though they SAY it is just being pulled out of your taxes, the taxes have gone up, so now taxes are the same and you have an additional almost $800 bill a year. We have been asked to write council, if you are against this new separation of charges in N.C.
WE HAVE JUST FINISHED THE NEWSPAPER!
Exciting news, after hours of writing articles, making ads, and formatting, we will be submitting our newspaper to print Monday morning ! If anyone feels the desire to help with the costs of printing, please etransfer to donate@coap.ca
