SD79 feedback, CVRD, NC sends Climate mitigation Plan to "environmental committee " and attempts to connect with community
5 pm tomorrow NC, 1-6 Cobble Hill
Hello friends, apologies for the late email.
First we will share the SD79 “feedback” survey that anyone with children in the district may want to fill out, especially since you are no longer able to go to SB meetings in-person, as they felt “threatened” by the pushback they received in the beginning of the year. : https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/sd79strat25
Tomorrow is the last day to engage with the CVRD on “community issues”
Date: June 19, 2024
Time: 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Location: Cobble Hill Community Hall
Address: 3550 Watson Ave Cobble Hill, BC V0R1L0
North Cowichan looks to send their Climate Action Plan to the Environmental Committee and the Agricultural Committee tomorrow. Both Committee’s are not filled with “specialist” in their field, yet are bestowed upon them the weight of overseeing policy, and then giving recommendations to council as if they WERE specialist in these fields. As we heard from one councilor a few meetings ago, the committees are selected by the council, and when you are beholden to a majority (4 to 3 vote) on almost every decision, we can only surmise who was agreed upon to be in these committees.
The adaption plans are filled with what you must sacrifice, and lack innovation such as local water cisterns, dredging of rivers, and true strategies that one would be looking to if the climate was a true emergency. Read the short report and recommendation here : (link to the plan is in the report) https://pub-northcowichan.escribemeetings.com/filestream.ashx?DocumentId=16264
And of interest, the BC Ombudsman quarterly report is being presented that includes these complaints:

On Saturday we went to hear what the protestors against Megan Murphy, and other woman that wanted to have their voices heard, had to say… but unfortunately were not able to engage in respectful discourse in our small community.
Sincerely, Team COAP
